Everyone who has ever played poker has heard the term....."Don't splash the pot", We all know what it means, and we know why you aren't supposed to do it.

Recently Merlotgirl and I had the experience of finding out what happens if you splash the pot at a casino.

It was about a month ago up at our favorite local casino, Choctaw. Merlotgirl was playing a $1 / $2 No Limit game and witnessed a player splashing a pot that she wasn't in. One of our favorite dealers up there, Aaron...preoceeded to tell the Splasher what would happen. If Aaron, couldn't easily determine the amout of chips the splasher threw into the pot...it would be like the action never took place. Luckily for the splasher, Aaron could easily see the 3 red chips he splashed....but lets go extrapolate that and see how bad this could have turned out.

Big pot, and we're on the river. Two players have very deep stacks and it's a monster hand. Player A bets $200...Player B says "Raise" and knocks several stacks of chips into the pot. The dealer can't tell how much Player B splashed with...and he isn't going to count the pot...so he tells the player...."you raised...so you need to put at least $400 out there as a bet". At this point the player, who may already have put $500 out there, for all we know...must put out $400. Period. End of Story.

Point being...play AHL poker just like you would in a casino...bad habits die hard, and can be very costly. It's your responsibility to do things like protect your hand, and to properly place bets...so just do it right every time, it may end up saving you money some day.
