went to Vegas this past week and we were just wandering around the strip and we ducked into Bill's Saloon which evidently used to be the Barbery Coast... they were about to start a 2pm tourney, a small one... just a $30 buy-in so we decided to play it.
Christina and I both bought in and I ended up winning it... it was a lot like an AHL event actually, I kept offering the guys a chop when we got down to 4 players and they kept saying no and then I ended up taking em out lol
only reason i post this is because i owe my better poker skills largely to the experience i've gained by playing so many AHL events
we only played one other tourney while we were there, a $60 buy-in at the Orleans and neither of us placed... I was still in there when we were down to 2 tables but the TD moved me to another table and i was sitting next to these two jerkoffs (that would definitely had been booted from any AHL event with the way they were acting) and i ended up going all-in with my AJ suited and one of those mooks called with K7 and the other had KQ and he hit a Q. oh well, i got my money in good. |

we also played cash at various places in town... Golden Nugget, Binions, Stratosphere, the Orleans, and i think that was it... it was blackjack at all the other places we went.
it was fun but i left Vegas with the same feeling i usually do which is that it's largely overrated. nothing has really changed... once you see the bright lights you realize it's all just one huge casino with different facades. the only thing that keeps bringing me back is the fact that i have family there.
oh and the national parks and scenery we saw in Cali were great!! |
