Here is a chance to have your voice heard
Over the past two years I have been going over the question of food chips and what pros and cons it offers to our players, AHL as a league and our locations.
From 2006 to 2009 the subject of food chips did not exist in AHL Poker and the idea was originally initiated to help encourage those players that did not support the venue to do so. However, looking over the past few years I cannot help but ask; are we encouraging those who do not support or punishing those who do? My meaning is this, those who eat and drink in our venues do so usually on their own accord and seem to understand the concept of supporting the venues without being told to do so. In fact I would say for myself personally I am not sure I would want to be forced to eat to get my full starting stack especially when a player can no longer factor in and receive credit for his/her drink purchases (original reason for the bonus chips that has since been forbidden by the TABC). I have also noticed little if no change in those players who seldom eat or drink or show support to the venues. In addition those players that eat here and there but primarily drink at the venues are given no reward at all and in all fairness how many times per day can one eat? So, are we now taking a system that was initiated to reward those who support and punishing half that field by short stacking those who support by drinking but receive no reward?
This became a question I came back to after I was out playing at an AHL venue and saw a player that got their 9000 bonus chips for ordering a $5 appetizer while another player at the very same table received no reward for supporting the venue with a $26 bar tab. I feel sometimes that even concepts that are born from good intention can change course and complicate or even hurt more than help.
The reason for this post is simple, I would like to hear the voice of the players before I make changes I feel are needed across the board. I think that having a flat starting stack of 10,000 chips with a 5000 chip bonus for password is a simple solution that will take out confusion, clutter of starting stacks and make for a smoother overall tournament. I will be making this change on a trail basis effective 11/29/12 on all AHL day games held at the Frisco Bar in Frisco Tx. If the sales at this venue remain the same or increase we will be making this change in all AHL games.
We at AHL Poker need our members to support the locations that offer our games but I do not believe that we have to twist arms or force players to eat to achieve good results for our clients. Please take the time to respond to this post on our AHL Facebook or here on our AHL forums and help us define what our AHL family of players want.
Thank you for your time and always your continued support of AHL Poker,
